Description
From the village center of Dürrenäsch, the hiking trail leads northwards over the Höi (608 m) to the Siebe Zwingstei. The boundary marker indicates the border between the three municipalities of Gränichen, Teufenthal, and Seon. This also marks the boundary between three districts of the canton of Aargau: Lenzburg, Kulm, and Aarau. The Siebe Zwingstei lies at 607 meters above sea level. After about two kilometers, you reach Liebegg Castle, a building from the 12th century. Since 1946, the castle has been owned by the canton of Aargau. It was renovated and today serves as a conference and cultural center. Since 2018, the Swiss Witch Museum has also been housed at Liebegg. Before Liebegg, a detour to the impressive sandstone caves is signposted. Here, the people of Gränichen quarried sandstone for the construction of the church, the granary, and several bridges. From Liebegg, the path continues past Trostburg and down to Teufenthal train station. Trostburg, also renovated, is now privately owned.
