Description

The penultimate stage on the Hochrhein High Trail starts in Bechtersbohl, a district of Küssaberg. In the 15th century, the Counts of Sulz ruled the region. The seat of their Landgraviate Klettgau was Tiengen Castle. Both the Catholic Church Bechtersbohl and the Küssaburg still bear the Sulz-Brandis coat of arms at the entrance. During the Thirty Years' War, the Küssaburg, built as early as the 11th century, was set on fire by the Austrian occupation before being handed over to the Swedes and was not rebuilt afterwards. With the formation of the Swiss Confederation, the territory of the counts shrank. To pay off their debts, in 1651 they sold the southernmost part of the old Klettgau, the Rafzerfeld, to the city of Zurich, and five years later the northeastern part of their county to the city of Schaffhausen. German Reich territory thus passed to Switzerland.

The German - Swiss hiking trail is continuously marked with a white-blue diamond on a yellow background.
