Description
The hike goes through the municipalities of Därstetten and Oberwil. Both were ruled by the Lords of Weissenburg in the 13th century. At the start of the hike, the Weissenburg railway stop, head towards the former Weissenburg spa. A pleasant forest path leads to the spa.
The thermal spring has been known for about 400 years. With the outbreak of the First World War, the decline of the spa operations began. The fire of the spa building in 1974 meant the definitive end. Drinking the water was said to have healing effects. After the bottling plant was taken over by the large corporation Unifontes, bottling was discontinued in 1988. The association Bad und Thermalquelle Weissenburg aims to preserve and maintain the area and facilities. At a fountain, you can refresh yourself with the mineral water.
Continuing towards Morgeten Pass along the Buuschebach, the path now climbs more steeply and then leads over metal stairs to the Leiternweide suspension bridge. It is 111 meters long and 111 meters high. Opened in October 2013, it connects the Leiternweide alp, which was previously only accessible by long detours, and is part of the historic spa route. From here, follow the signposts to Oberwil. Alternately flat or descending, through forest or meadows, it goes over Mursbrunne to Buusche. From the hamlet of Buusche, the hike passes the ruins of Weissenburg castle down to the town of the same name. Now, a short climb remains to the Weissenburg railway stop, the end of the hike.
