Description

The Justistal, whose entrance is well marked by the distinctive Niederhorn, is considered a snow-sure winter paradise. Its name was given by the monk Justus, who once spread the gospel at Lake Thun with his companion Beatus.

The route leads from Grön with a slight ascent along the Grönbach, which flows into Lake Thun at Merligen. The well-prepared trails through this unique landscape make cross-country skiers’ hearts beat faster: The Justistal, at an elevation between 1,200 and 1,400 meters above sea level, is framed by the Sigriswiler Rothorn, Niederhorn, and Gemmenalphorn, with the Sichel in the background. It continues past Spycherberg, where the legendary «Chästeilet» takes place every autumn, during which the produced cheeses are divided by lottery according to the milk yield of the cows.

From there opens the impressive, somewhat mystical valley floor of the Justistal with a view to the destination, the Hindersberg alpine hut. At the very back, the pass crossing into the Zulgtal is clearly recognizable by its sickle shape. The return of this demanding and secluded trail is done via the same path to the starting point.
