Description

Our hike begins in Lichtensteig, a triangularly laid-out small town founded around 1200 by the counts of Toggenburg. From 1468 to 1798 it was the seat of the abbatial bailiff. The picturesque townscape is characterized by half-timbered houses and arcades on both sides of the main street. We follow a country path southwards and cross the Dietfurt Stream and the Thur on the 'wire bridge' built by the military in 1963.

Past Bütschwil station, dominated by the stately neo-Romanesque St. Kilian church, we continue to Chapf. After a somewhat steep forest section, we are rewarded with a beautiful view. We reach Lütisburg station and continue to the Gonzenbach bridge and the hamlet of Gonzenbach. Over the wooden bridge built in 1790, which is overshadowed by the Guggenloch railway viaduct, we pass through the village of Lütisburg.

After two hours, we reach Bazenheid with the imposing neo-Gothic parish church of 1894.
