Description

The hike starts in the hamlet of Fankhaus at the bus stop and is signposted with the destination Trub. It runs mostly on a newly created footpath from 2017 / 18. Right at the starting point, you cross the Fankhusbach on a footbridge. On the left bank, you mostly walk close to the stream and along meadows or short forest sections. At the hamlet of Ried, you cross over a footbridge to the right bank. Another footbridge leads over the Brandöschbach. The body of water is now called Trueb and babbles towards the village of Trub. The route switches again to the left bank via the Furenbrücke (Furen bridge). Now it goes briefly uphill, downhill again, and after a last stream crossing you reach the valley road. You follow this and soon turn right and then again left into Mühlestrasse to the destination of the hike at Löwenplatz.

Background: The municipality of Trub is located in the upper Emmental, is shaped by agriculture, and has a large scattered settlement area. In terms of area, Trub belongs to the largest municipalities in the canton of Bern with 6200 hectares, about 50 percent of the area is forested. While around 50,000 Swiss citizens are registered as residents of Trub, the population is modest at 1320 people. The folk song «Dr Trueberbueb», which over time became the unofficial anthem of the Emmental, is well known far beyond the municipal boundaries. It was written in 1875 by the then priest of Trubschachen, Gottfried Strasser. The successful film «The Autumn Ladies» takes place in Trub and was also shot there. Historically significant is the Benedictine monastery Trub, founded in 1125 and dissolved during the Reformation.
