Description

Hike to the highest reservoir in Europe, whose dam at 1050 meters is the longest in Switzerland. There is plenty of wildlife to observe along the way, and the Muttseehütte SAC invites you to stop for a break.

A beautiful and varied hike to the Muttsee, the highest reservoir in Europe. The hike starts in Tierfed, where the first 1000 meters of altitude can be overcome with the KLL Tierfed-Kalktrittli cable car.

Hike via Muttenwändli:

From the mountain station the marked path leads over Chalchtrittli, Nüschen, Muttenwändli to the hut. This path has been expanded and widened and exposed sections are sufficiently equipped with chains. (2.5 hrs from the mountain station / T3)

Hike through the tunnel:

From the mountain station a marked path leads through the power station tunnel (approx. 3 km) to the Limmerensee. From there on the renovated and widened path via Mörtel ascending to the hut. This path dries quickly after rain due to its south-facing location. However, sturdy footwear is also essential here.

2.5 hrs from the mountain station / T2 (one short section secured with chains T3)

Access from Linthal:

Via Auengüter / Obbort: Those who want to start from Linthal without using the cable car walk via Auengüter to Obbort and through the "Tritt" to Baumgartenalp. From there via Geisstritt, Chalchtrittli, Nüschenalp, Muttenwändli to the hut. The "Tritt" is particularly tricky when wet, especially downhill. (6 to 7 hrs from Linthal SBB / T4)

Via Pantenbrugg: From Linthal west of the Linth along Tierfed and further over Pantenbrugg, Üeli, Schwamm to Baumgartenalp. From there via Geisstritt, Chalchtrittli, Nüschenalp, Muttenwändli to the hut. 6 to 7 hrs from Linthal SBB / T3
