Description
From the Berghotel Langis, you overcome a small rise eastwards to Schwendi Kaltbad, a popular excursion destination for families and hikers. In the former spa house, guests expected healing from the iron-rich mineral spring bubbling here. In the quaint chapel from 1865, services for alpine herders and guests or weddings take place in the summer months.
Heading west on the access road, you pass by the Andresen hut first over pasture and then ascending through the forest to the Schlier ridge up to the Bärnerstig, an old crossing to the Entlebuch. From there, the Schlier ridge leads northwards with slight ups and downs through blueberry bushes and past gnarly pines and spruces. It continues along the white-red-white mountain trail markings through forest and pasture areas with great views over the Schlieren valley and Lake Lucerne.
Passing Chrüzliegg near Gschwänt, the path leads further to Lütoldsmatt. There begins the long ascent to the Pilatus. But the effort is definitely worth it. Once at the top, the view stretches far down to Lake Lucerne and over countless alpine peaks – simply magnificent! And as a reward, a spectacular descent with the steepest cogwheel railway in the world awaits you to Alpnachstad.
