Description

On the hike from Herisau-Wilen via Rechberg, Buechschachen and Lutzenland, there are views in all directions – over the gentle hills of the Hinterland and Mittelland, to the Alpstein, the Fürstenland and Lake Constance. Nature offers a lot of variety with flower meadows, forests and a pond.

Around the Herisau center, agriculture is omnipresent: farms are scattered across the hills. Here and there, there are organic meadows where nature unfolds freely with a variety of colorful flowers. A paradise for flowers and grasses is the Saumweiher: it is a nature reserve and habitat for amphibians, birds and insects. In 1960, Pro Natura was able to conclude an easement contract for the pond and the adjacent reed meadows and thus protect the valuable, approximately one-hectare area in the long term. Three neighboring farms are responsible for its maintenance.
