Description
This hike is mostly on the territory of the Solothurn municipality of Grenchen and partly in the Bernese Jura. At the starting point Stierenberg, follow the indication Obergrenchenberg. The ascent past Untergrenchenberg goes over shorter sections across pastures and mostly through forest, so it is pleasant in the shade even at higher temperatures. Along the way, you encounter traditional dry stone walls stacked by hand. At the signpost before Obergrenchenberg, turn left towards Tiefmatt La Bluée. Continue first on level ground, then descending and briefly ascending over pastures to Längschwand, point 1301. Here is a memorial stone commemorating Federal Councillor Willi Ritschard. He died here on a hike on October 16, 1983, a few days after announcing his resignation. Willi Ritschard was very popular with the population due to his humorous and down-to-earth manner. The following section to Tiefmatt / La Bluée is on a paved surface. Here, continue straight towards Stierenberg. Alternating over pastures and forest, on level paths, descending and briefly ascending, you reach the parking lot at Wäsmeli and shortly after the hiking destination Stierenberg. Hikers arriving by car should park at the Wäsmeli parking lot and not at the restaurant Stierenberg's parking lot.
