Description

The main range of the Bernese Oberland, with famous mountains such as Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau, forms the border between the Swiss cantons of Valais and Bern. The Bernese Alpine Traverse follows the impressive mountain chain in its full length from west to east. The route starts in Lenk, from where it immediately goes up to the Wildhornhütte. Via the Wildstrubel and the Gemmi Pass, the remote Lötschental is reached. From the Anenhütte, we walk over the Lang Glacier to the Lötschenlücke, near the Hollandia Hütte rebuilt with Dutch support. Then we continue over the impressive Aletsch Glacier to the high-lying Konkordiahütten. The crossing to the Oberaarjochhütte is a true high alpine route. Characteristic of the route are the long daily stages, which place high demands on fitness. Timely acclimatization by getting in shape is a prerequisite for sufficient holiday enjoyment!

Note: This route has been promoted in the past by the NKBV. Due to possible changing circumstances, you are always responsible for checking the current route conditions yourself. Get information from the local tourist office or from the experts of the respective region to go safely and prepared.
