Description

The route starts in Bürglen, where the local castle is located, dating from the 13th century and rebuilt in 1633 after a fire. In the next village Leimbach, the first pasta factory in the canton was established around 1850. It was later moved to Weinfelden.

The next section leads past a slender, widely visible tower in Langrickenbach. It dates from 1728. In the area around Altnau, a lot of interesting information about fruit growing in Thurgau is provided.

Gögelland refers to an area that was originally very remote. Residents of larger towns such as Weinfelden and Kreuzlingen considered residents of Gögelland to be somewhat clumsy and awkward. Linguists derive the word from 'goukelaere,' meaning magician, juggler, or sleight of hand artist. Another approach lies in the word 'Ganggel': this stands for a childish and foolish person and thus also explains the emblem with the fool's cap.
