Description
The hiking trail from Gimmelwald to Mürren passes the Schwendi area. A small stream and a beautiful old maple tree structure the meadow land attractively. At the forest edge grow marsh orchis, Turk's cap lily, and other alpine flowers. In recognition of their efforts to preserve this landscape gem, the farmers received the Cultural Landscape Award of the Oberland-East region in 2019.
The steep mowed meadow lies directly above the Mürrenfluh. The view is magnificent: It stretches from the Männlichen ridge over the Jungfrau to the north faces of the back Lauterbrunnen valley.
From Mürren, the path leads to the "Sprutz," the waterfall of the Schiltbach, which plunges below the hamlet of Stutz. The hiking trail passes between the waterfall and rock wall. This section should be taken with caution because the slope is steep and the path narrow (a slightly exposed spot is secured by a rope). The descent to Gimmelwald runs through the forest and on scenic pasture land.
