Description

Those who want to learn more about the geology of Baden's underground are exactly right on this path.

Wherever you walk in Baden, you are moving on rock layers that are millions of years old. The geological trail explains how they have changed over time, the influence of the Limmat, and whether there really was once a lake before Baden. Geological points of interest are marked with orientation boards at Chrüzliberg, Hundsbuck, Schloss Stein, Martinsbergkänzeli, Lägernkopf, in the lower Old Town, and in the spa district. Fun fact: The cobblestones of Kronengasse consist of river gravel, probably fished out of the Limmat riverbed. These contain numerous rocks from the northern Alps and pre-Alps. Among them are some rare specimens that occur only in a relatively small area in the Alps. So, a bit of Alpine rock is also in Baden...
