Gempen-Nordtrail route

The Herrenmatt near Hochwald offers not only a 9-hole swingolf course but also a fantastic view of the Birseck, the Leimental, the nearby Alsace, and the Rhine plain. A little later on the Schartenflue/Gempen, the panoramic view is even better, and you can take a break before the real challenge: the Gempen-Nordtrail. It was the first of its kind in Northwestern Switzerland, built by a pioneer group now organized under Trailnet. The first descent section is the Blackberry Trail, and after a middle section follows the Banana Trail, named after the banana bridge that crosses the Birs at the endpoint.
