Description

The beginner's bike route follows national bike route no. 6 along the cantonal road from Thusis to the Viamala Gorge, an impressive natural monument. The Hinterrhein carves its way through the gorge at a dizzying depth. Despite all difficulties, the path through the gorge was, from the 14th century, the best access to the Splügen Pass and formed the shortest north-south Alpine crossing. The route continues to Zillis with the remarkable St. Martin's Church from the 12th century and its unique ceiling painting. On the left side of the Hinterrhein, the path continues leisurely through Donat and Clugin to Andeer.

After a break in the spa resort Andeer, the route heads back on the right side of the Hinterrhein on bike paths to Zillis and then down again over the Viamala Gorge to Thusis via the cantonal road.

Alternatively, the section between Thusis and Rongellen can also be covered on the Viamala path, which is closed to traffic, through the Verlorna Loch.

From Andeer, a small detour to Pignia and down to Pignia Bogn can also be made.
