Description
The first highlight of this hike is also the highest point: the Lueg, an impressive vantage point. From the Lueg monument, which was erected in 1921, there is a fantastic view over the rolling hills of the Emmental as far as the Bernese Alps. From the monument, follow the yellow signpost in the direction of Junkholz and Affoltern. The trail alternates between forest, meadow and asphalt sections. Along the way, hikers can admire the beautiful Emmental farmhouses, children can enjoy the cats, chickens and horses, and regional products can be purchased directly from the producer in numerous farm stores.
The Emmental show dairy is one of the best-known excursion destinations in the region and provides interesting insights into the production of the famous Emmentaler AOP - using both modern and traditional methods. There are four cheese dairy buildings from different eras on the site: The Küherstock (1741), the Chäshütte (1900), the old village cheese dairy (1954) and the modern show dairy (1989). In the show dairy, milk is processed in ultra-modern facilities, while in the Küherstock the "Stöcklikäse" is still made by hand using traditional methods. The cheese hut and the old village cheese dairy still house the historic cheese-making facilities. Guided tours show visitors how the holes in the cheese are made. There is also a specialist cheese store, a bakery, a petting zoo with dwarf goats, a cheese playground and many other attractions.
