Description

From Rossweid, the winter hiking trail scenicly leads through bright moor forests with impressive tree shapes and over snowy moor landscapes. If the T-bar lifts are fully occupied, three quick moves are needed on the way to cross the lift tracks in a gap. At Salwideli there is an opportunity to stop for refreshments. At the foot of the snow-white shining Schratteflue, the winter hiking trail continues downhill on a path with views towards Hohgant. On the way, farm products and drinks can be purchased near Schneeberg and Vorder Schönisei Hof.

After Schneebärgli, increasingly long shaded sections follow. Down by the Emme, where the winter hiking trail (SwitzerlandMobility route no. 670) crosses from the canton of Lucerne into the canton of Bern, hardly a ray of sunshine reaches the area for weeks in winter. The last two kilometers on Bernese soil run in the shade. The mostly icy little road through the forest downhill demands corresponding attention.

Mighty icicles decorate the slopes above the road, and the Emme must carve its way through ice and stones in its streambed. The descent becomes increasingly frosty. At the bottom of the cold lake, a clearing reveals the cozy and inviting Hotel Landgasthof Kemmeriboden Bad. Nothing can be seen of the storm damage from 2022. Wood fires burn in the forecourt, guiding guests from the entrance to warmth. With a warm drink and a «Meränggä», for which the guesthouse is renowned far and wide, limbs warm up quickly again.
