Description
The listed small town Kaiserstuhl in the canton of Aargau at the starting point is the smallest municipality in Switzerland. On the other side of the Rhine bridge Kaiserstuhl – Hohentengen stands the castle Rotwasserstelz (Rötteln Castle), built in the 12th century. It belongs to the German community of Hohentengen in Waldshut district.
With idyllic floodplain landscapes on the High Rhine, the varied hiking trail begins. At the fishing village of Rümikon, we leave the Rhine to explore relatively unknown landscapes of the Zurzibiet on a panoramic circular route.
Above Wislikofen lies the approx. 200 ha large nature reserve Gweslig. On the dry grassland, pasqueflowers and several orchid species occur (e.g., burnt orchid). Another biological speciality is the butterfly legumes.
After another ascent to the Rübisberg, the return path leads down into the Bach valley, through which the Fisibach meanders, one of the most beautiful streams of the Aargau midland.
