Description

The first special feature is the quarries located in the forest of Mägenwil, which were already used by the Romans. The following path leads past the neo-Romanesque church of Waltenschwil, then past the pilgrimage chapel and church of Tägerig to the former monastery of Gnadental. On the right riverbank, upstream of the Reuss, you can enjoy the closeness to nature and the wild beauty of the river. In Sulz, on summer weekends, there is the possibility to cross by ferry and hike the circular Fischbach-Göslikon trail, either clockwise or counterclockwise. Here, besides a beautiful village center, you can admire probably the most attractive Rococo chapel in the Freiamt, a magnificent dead-ice lake from the last Ice Age, and well-preserved farmhouses. Returning on the path along the Reuss, the route goes - partly through nature reserves - to Eggenwil with its romantically situated village church and from there on to Widen.
