Freiämterweg: Othmarsingen - Schongau

When leaving Othmarsingen station, you can get information at the information board on the right side of the stairs and choose the mountain route towards Lindenberg. The first attraction in the place is the old mill. There was probably already a grain mill here in the times of the Habsburgs. Before Dottikon, you follow the Bünz past the Tieffurt mill and reach the animal park at the industrial area. Visiting the famous neo-Gothic church with its ancient cemetery chapel in Villmergen is definitely worthwhile. After the water-rich forest, the venerable Hilfikon castle with its remarkable castle chapel comes into sight. In Sarmenstorf, the Wendelins Chapel lies on the path before a short ascent brings you to the Chilenwinkel viewpoint. In the forest, further highlights follow: the Neolithic burial ground in Zigiholz (information board) and the roofed ruins of a Roman estate. In the last section to Oberschongau, enjoy the view of the lovely Seetal with Lake Hallwil and Lake Baldegg.
