Description
From the Val d'Arc stop, we go down to the house of Agostino Stampa, the grandfather of Augusto Giacometti. Across a historic bridge we reach the Palazzo Castelmur. Opposite on a hill west of the Palazzo is the church of San Pietro, where a fresco by Augusto Giacometti from the year 1743 can be admired.
We cross the small village of Coltura heading east. After about 15 minutes we reach the current school building, which was built between 1961 and 1963 by Bruno Giacometti.
We continue on an unpaved road to the village of Borgonovo. Here are the birthplaces of Alberto and Diego Giacometti and that of Annette Stampa, Alberto's wife. We walk back towards Stampa, passing the church of San Giorgio, where the graves of members of the famous family are located. The stele on Giovanni's grave was made by Alberto and the church window by Augusto from 1935.
In the center of Stampa, on our left we see the Giacometti studio and the house where Alberto grew up. Next door is the Centro Giacometti, where exhibitions and lectures about the family are offered in summer. The last stage of our cultural walk is the Ciäsa Granda museum, which exhibits various works by members of the famous Bergell family.
