Description

This winter hiking or sledding route starts with a comfortable gondola ride to the First mountain station. Sleds can be rented at the Intersport shop at the First mountain station. On beautiful weekends and during the high season, a reservation here is recommended. Before the ascent towards Bachalpsee, the Berggasthaus First and Anja's Skibar offer last opportunities to stop for refreshments.

The groomed winter hiking trail leads up to the Faulhorn in about two and a half hours. The impressive peaks of Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, and Finsteraarhorn always at your back. The Bachalpsee, a popular photo spot and excursion destination in summer, is also on the way towards Faulhorn. Once at the top, there is a panoramic view of the surrounding Bernese Oberland mountain landscape. The Faulhorn is a historic mountain hotel that remains closed in winter. The ascent is worthwhile nonetheless, as a beautiful descent with a unique view follows. The sun-soaked Bussalp offers another opportunity to stop after the fast descent. If there is enough snow, you can sled down to the village. Alternatively, buses run or you can hike back to the village.

Here is the status of the winter hiking trails.
