Description
The Etzelfluo forest walk leads through the forests at Etzelfluo and in Strickli, where you can enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of Sihlsee and the Mythen mountains. In the very natural forest at Etzelfluo, you will find Norway spruce, silver fir, and beech trees. In contrast, Strickli forest has a large proportion of spruce and was partly artificially planted.
There is also a natural forest reserve at Etzelfluo covering an area of over 16 hectares. What might look like disorder in this reserve actually plays an important role for the forests: the deadwood from fallen trees is the basis for young plants and serves as food for countless insects, which return nutrients to the plants. The forest edges also host a great biodiversity, including medicinal plants such as St. John's wort, oregano, and various orchids. Numerous wooden steps lead through Strickli forest up to Etzelkulm, past rocks and tunnels whose patterns date back to the military period of World War II. With an estimated duration of 1.5 to 2 hours and the stairs, gravel, and forest paths, this route is rated as rather difficult.
