Description
At the starting point of the route at the Hagneck railway stop, continue along the railway track towards Ins. The main signpost indicates the direction, Erlach. Soon you cross the Hagneck canal on the bridge. This canal was built in the context of the Jura water correction in the second half of the 19th century and directs Aare water from Aarberg into Lake Biel. With the associated lowering of the Lake Biel water level, the risk of flooding was reduced and valuable, fertile agricultural land was gained from the marshy soils of the Great Moos. Immediately after the bridge, the railway line and the main road have to be crossed.
On a footpath in the forest you now reach the shore-side ridge. Here it is worth looking at Lake Biel with the new Hagneck hydropower plant and towards the Jura. Now turn left, follow the ridge shortly and soon descend to the Strandboden. Near the shore, the route leads on natural roads and a footpath to Lüscherz. Here it goes into the village and later on a residential street and then on a path in the forest up to the Hofmannsflue. At some points, there is a view of Lake Biel and the Jura. At first continuing through forest, then over fields, you reach the village of Vinelz. Immediately after the church, turn right and descend to Lake Biel. Now a further natural passage follows. The walk through the historic town to the end of the route, the Erlach Post bus stop, forms a worthy conclusion to the hike.
