Description

First hiking stage:

1st Station: Starting point in Sumiswald

The beer hike begins at Marktgasse 18 in Sumiswald. There, enjoy a first beer and a beer-spread “Hopfenmutschli.” The route continues toward Trachselwald Castle, passing typical Emmental hills and farmhouses. Along the way, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Alps on a clear day.

2nd Station: Trachselwald Castle

Once there, admire the distinctive Trachselwald Castle from the 13th century. It is one of the most remarkable and well-preserved medieval castles in Switzerland. Climb the castle tower and enjoy splendid views of the Emmental before heading to the next beer tasting in the castle garden, where the next cool beer awaits you! Afterwards, the hike continues to the Löwen guesthouse.

3rd Station: Gasthof zum Löwen Grünenmatt

Make yourself comfortable at Gasthof Löwen and look forward to the next local beer served with fresh garlic bread. After this little indulgence break, continue to Grünenmatt station. Here, board the train to “Burgdorf Steinhof.” Trains depart at xx.23 (direct) and xx.46 (transfer in Ramsei). Note: Only the first stage of the beer trail is shown on the interactive map in the hiking planner. Under media, you will find an overview map of the second stage or further information below. > Emmental Beer Trail

Second hiking stage:

4th Station: Burgdorf Castle

When arriving at Burgdorf Steinhof, take a short walk into the old town of Burgdorf, where an apéritif platter and another fine beer await in Burgdorf Castle. From the castle, enjoy a magnificent view of the city of Burgdorf and the Emmental hill landscape.

5th Station: Schützenhaus Burgdorf

The path to the final indulgence station leads through the beautiful old town of Burgdorf and along the Emme. At the Schützenhaus, you will be treated to the grand finale: a smaller version of the legendary brewmaster’s schnitzel and, of course, a delicious local beer.
