Dutjer Alp - Magnificent View

The Walser settlement of Ober Dutjen, perched high above the Rhine Gorge, can be reached via a well-maintained road from Valendas. From the small parking area at the end of the hamlet, follow the field path to a solitary holiday home. Here, take a left turn and continue past the barbecue area until you reach the forest. The trail then winds steeply upward through a forest clearing and across a meadow before meeting a wider forest path. Follow this path uphill to point 1725, where you turn right. The route then crosses pastures leading to Sevgeiner Alp. From there, follow the alpine road until it joins a track coming up from below. Continue uphill along this track to reach Alp da Riein, where the view opens up into the Val Lumnezia.

Following the ridge and the faint trail across alpine meadows, you reach Dutjer Alp, a perfect spot to rest and enjoy a picnic in peaceful surroundings. The descent takes you through a gnarled mountain forest, where some spruce trees are over 200 years old.

This circular hike is distinguished by breathtaking views over the Vorderrhein Valley, stretching from Chur far into the Grisons Highlands. The Flims rockslide area and the impressive Rhine Gorge lie directly at the hiker’s feet!
