Description

The starting point of the winter hike is the valley station of the Schatzalp cable car. From there, it goes up to the Hohe Promenade and then in large switchbacks on the Thomas Mann route, on the sunny side of Davos, through snowy forests up to the historic Schatzalp. The writer Thomas Mann set a literary monument to Davos with his novel "The Magic Mountain." Five years after the novel's publication, the writer received the Nobel Prize in Literature, which immortalized his entire body of work. The terraces on Schatzalp, where once sanatorium patients cured their tuberculosis, today serve for sunbathing. The ambiance and the feeling of life amidst pure Art Nouveau architecture are still almost like 100 years ago. The architecture of the sanatorium has been preserved. Deceleration is greatly emphasized here. With a wonderful view, you can enjoy the peace.

From Schatzalp, the winter hike continues with a short ascent to Strela Alp. In the cozy mountain restaurant, you can enjoy the great Alpine panorama and hearty specialties on the large sunny terrace.

The return journey follows the same path down to Schatzalp. From Schatzalp, you can decide whether to go on foot, by the Schatzalp cable car, or on the wide, well-prepared sledding trail down in 18 curves through the Schatzalp Magic Forest to Davos. Use of the sledding run is free and it is also suitable for children and beginners. Sleds are rented at the valley station of the Schatzalp cable car.
