Cultural Route Schönengrund

With the construction of the Reformed church at the farm "im schönen Grund", the foundation stone for the community was laid in 1720. Schönengrund separated politically from Urnäsch in 1721. The history of the textile industry began in 1818 with the "bleachery", which, in addition to embroidery, offered numerous jobs. In the 1830s and 1840s, home weaving reached its peak. Inspired by the success of neighboring communities, tourism was also promoted in Schönengrund from 1895. At Hochhamm, the tenant of the alp opened a summer restaurant for excursion guests in 1894. In 1965, a chairlift and mountain restaurant were built. The Bruggli bath, built in 1838, was recommended for treating rheumatic ailments.
