Description
The route starts in the village of Ettiswil. Those arriving by car start at the municipal office and follow the Ettiswil signposts, and those arriving by public transport start at the Post stop. From the Post stop, follow the road towards Brestenegg. Still on asphalt, continue to the Wyher Water Castle, passing the associated chapel. In a few minutes, you will reach the nature study area. The Buchwald nature study area in the former gravel pit is always accessible and rich in plants, amphibians, insects, and birds.
After the nature study area, we follow the signposts towards Kottwil. We can see the village of Grosswangen and the Pilatus mountain range in the background. A beautiful forest path leads us up to Hinterberg at 654 m. We continue on the path to Kottwil. After leaving the forest, a view opens up of the wide Wauwil plain. In the village of Kottwil, we follow the path to Seewagen. On wide asphalt and natural roads, we now enter the Wauwil plain and follow the Wauwilermoos signpost to the observation tower of the nature reserve. We continue along the long, straight road to the next major hiking trail junction. We turn left and walk to the Hostris elevation at 528 m. There is now the option to turn left and take the direct route back to Ettiswil. We choose the other option and turn right towards Wässermatte and arrive at the Hostris fireplace site on the Wigger. From there, we walk along the riverbank back to Ettiswil. At the “Place of Dialogue” we can observe where the two waters Rot and Wigger merge. On a wide natural path, we first reach the Sacrament chapel and then return to the village.
