Description

A well-maintained, mostly flat dirt road leads you to Rueun railroad station. Here you will find the oldest wooden bridge in the canton of Graubünden - it is also one of the oldest in Europe. In Rueun, the trail leads along the road into the village of Rueun, where you turn right into Via Principala (towards Schnaus). At the church in the village of Rueun, the circular route leads off to the left (between the houses). Note that the signpost is somewhat hidden. After Rueun, you have the option of following a section of the historic “Via Suworow” or taking the short detour through the village of Schnaus. Shortly before Schnaus and the historic site of the Giger brothers, there is a forest nature trail. It is worth allowing a little more time for this and visiting the Gigerseeli or the old water wheel.

Shortcut options:

  • A signpost before the Rueun depot leads to Schnaus. This allows you to shorten the loop a little

  • In Rueun (directly by the wooden bridge) you will find Rueun station, where you can take the RhB back to Ilanz.

On the way between Ilanz and Rueun there is an idyllic picnic/barbecue area with several fire pits and access to the Rhine. Perfect for a refreshment break.
