Description
The postal bus stops at the school in Euthal, a small village at the end of Lake Sihl. From there, it is a ten-minute walk to the start at Ober Schweig where the trail begins. We set off, eyes fixed on the Chli Aubrig. Passing farmsteads, the path gently ascends and crosses snowy meadows. Some of these meadows belong to the Einsiedeln monastery, hence the place name and the route name: Chlosterweid. The name also suits the silence surrounding us.
After a short forest section at Chrummflüeli, we reach the highest point of the route. Experienced snowshoers would now continue hiking to Chli Aubrig. We, however, start on the gently descending return path. The open terrain lets us look down onto the village of Euthal and Lake Sihl. Along the way, we glance back several times at the Sihl Valley and Wägitaler mountains before returning to the starting point Ober Schweig.
