Description
With the Centovalli Railway (Locarno-Domodossola) to Camedo, the last village on the border with Italy. Over the Melezza river and up to Pian del Barch. From Fornas down to Boladee, a hamlet of Palagnedra. Walk through the impressive forest reserve of Palagnedra, with its gigantic beech trees, to Bordei. Bordei is a pretty, restored village with an osteria (restaurant) to stop for a bite to eat. In the forest, steeply down into the gorge followed by the counter-ascent up to Terra Vecchia. Terra Vecchia is also an impressive old settlement that has been newly restored. A monastery with a vegetable garden belongs to the village centre. No one has really lived here for a long time. Rasa is only a stone's throw away. A short climb up a mule track and you've reached the only car-free village in Ticino. It is a charming place and there's a grotto (restaurant). Take the cable car (runs March-November) down to Verdasio railway station, from where the Centovalli Railway departs.
