Description
With the Centovallina (Locarno-Domodossola train) you reach Camedo, the last village before the border with Italy. You cross the Melezza river before ascending to Pian del Barch. The hike crosses the impressive Palagnedra forest reserve, populated by giant beeches, up to Bordei, a charming, restored village with an osteria, where you will be treated to the cuisine of Pietro Leemann, pioneer of refined vegetarian haute cuisine. The forest path descends steeply into the gorge, then continues towards Terra Vecchia, an impressive ancient hamlet recently restored. In the center, there is a monastery with a garden. Rasa, the only village in Ticino not accessible by road - giving it a unique charm - is just a stone's throw away: after a short climb, you reach the cable car (operating from March to November) to the Verdasio railway station, where the Centovallina stops.
Attention: the Verdasio–Rasa cable car will be closed for renovation works until around spring 2027.
