Description
With the Centovallina (Locarno-Domodossola train) you reach Camedo, the last village before the border with Italy. You cross the Melezza river before ascending to Pian del Barch. At Fornas, descend towards Boladee, a hamlet of Palagnedra. The hike crosses the impressive Palagnedra forest reserve, populated by giant beeches, up to Bordei, a small and charming village renovated with a tavern for a break. The forest path descends steeply into the gorge, then continues towards Terra Vecchia, an impressive ancient village recently restored. In the center of the village, there is a monastery with a garden, although no one has lived there for a long time. Rasa, the only village in Ticino not accessible by road—giving it a unique charm—is just a stone's throw away: after a short climb, you reach the cable car (operating from March to November) to the Verdasio railway station, where the Centovallina stops.
