Description
The gentle hills of the Bucheggberg are suitable for family bike hikes. The route leads from baroque Solothurn through the beautiful landscape of the Bucheggberg. The path passes idyllic villages, lush meadows, and colorful fields. The historic small town Büren an der Aare invites a visit before the route continues to the stork colony of Altreu and finally back to Solothurn.
At Mülitäli near Lüterswil, you can visit the Graben oils. The oil mill dates from the 16th century. Its large water wheel with its fascinating mechanism of wooden gears and shafts is powered by the Mülibach. Various works are necessary for oil production, such as the Kollergang, the oven with agitator, and the wedge press, where nuts and seeds are crushed, heated, and pressed. Further work can be done with the bone stamp and the hemp and flax scraper. After decades of threatening to fall into ruin, the facility was extensively restored by the Lüterswil Oil Association in 1987/88 and regularly put back into operation.
