Waypoints: Bützi (2,150 m above sea level), Erigsmatt (2,082 m above sea level), Drecklochstafel (1,698 m above sea level), Chäseren (1,272 m above sea level)
After a comfortable ride with the Kombibahn Gumen, this unforgettable and impressive hike begins at the Gumen mountain station. Slightly uphill past the magnificent alpine flora, it soon gets steeper until the first waypoint "Bützi" is reached. Here you stand on the border between the cantons of Glarus and Schwyz, and for the next while you will be enchanted by the largest karst area in Switzerland. The gray desert of limestone, into which rain and meltwater have carved deep fissures. The karst fields have their very special charm; step by step you continue and every step must be chosen carefully. This is no place for someone who isn't paying attention.
Every now and then we encounter one of the around one thousand sheep that spend the summer on the Erigsmatt. After leaving the green oasis of Erigsmatt behind, the hike goes uphill again to the highest point of the day, the Brunnalpelihöchi (2,252 m above sea level).
From now on it only goes downhill, past the Drecklochstafel to the alpine hamlet Chäseren. By prior reservation, the alpine taxi runs down to the Plätz restaurant in the Klöntal, or you take the last 400 meters of altitude (about one hour) on foot.
From Plätz, the PostBus runs along the Klöntal lake to Glarus.
