Description
The starting point is the train station of the Jura village Les Bois. Via a road, you reach the horse retirement home Maison Rouge and further over pastures the hamlet Cerneux-Godat. Now follows the descent from the high plateau of the Freiberge through the forest to Biaufond. At Roche de l’Aigle (Eagle Rock), a stop is recommended to enjoy the view of the Doubs gorge.
A short detour to the Lac de Biaufond is worthwhile, not only to briefly enter the canton of Neuchâtel. The boundary stone in the dammed lake is striking: here the cantons Jura and Neuchâtel meet with France.
Pristine is the following part of the hike through the Combe de Biaufond to Cul des Prés. Time seems to stand still here. At certain stretches, the stream seeps away and flows underground. Moss can grow on the stones and fallen tree trunks. Boardwalks and ladders facilitate the ascent through the gorge. The subsequent rest area at Cul des Prés is convenient for a break or refreshment stop.
Rejuvenated, you tackle the ascent through the forest to the high plateau of the Freiberge, passing two other rest opportunities. Over pastures along typical dry stone walls, the route continues to Maison Rouge and along previously walked paths back to Les Bois. Unnoticed, the border between the cantons Jura – Bern and the municipal boundary between Les Bois (JU) and La Ferrière (BE) is crossed six times during the route.
