Description
We start this panorama route at the Tourist Information at Luzern station in the immediate vicinity of the city of Luzern. We ride through the up-and-coming and trendy Neustadt district with historic street names such as Murbacher, Sempacher, Habsburger, and Waldstätter streets. Coming from Winkelriedstrasse, we cross the federal road and follow Neustadtstrasse to the "Freigleis", the former railway track of the Zentralbahn. We now follow this highway for cyclists and pedestrians to the cultural center "Südpol". Since the construction of the railway tunnel under the Hubelmatthügel and the new route under the Allmend, the old railway track is no longer needed. Its current use as a slow traffic axis is a blessing for the growing agglomeration in the south of Luzern.
We cruise past the exhibition halls, sports facilities, and high-rise buildings of the Allmend, through the lovingly maintained community gardens to Horw. On residential streets, we pedal easily through the town; the rapid development of the "village" is evident from the ongoing construction. Occasionally, attention must be paid to traffic at intersections, especially since we otherwise mainly travel on low-traffic roads. We continue towards the Horw peninsula, passing the Sternen restaurant, arriving at the Winkel beach bath. For those longing for a cooling dip, this is the first opportunity.
Following the lakeshore road, we enjoy wonderful views of Pilatus, Stanserhorn, and Bürgenstock. Along the lake, there are always cozy bathing places, quite popular in the height of summer. We now move away from the lake and gain some height. At the Seehotel Kastanienbaum, it is worth stopping briefly for a refreshment or a small snack. On this occasion, enjoy the unique view from the sun terrace over Lake Lucerne.
Winter: Culinary stops invite you to warm up and enjoy the view. At the Seehotel Kastanienbaum, the cozy wooden huts equipped with rustic benches, fluffy blankets, and heated cushions provide a atmospheric fondue experience in winter. At Weinbau Ottiger, idyllically surrounded by vineyards, groups can experience exclusive wine tastings in a unique atmosphere. Immerse yourself in the world of wine and let the aromas enchant you.
Summer: As a insider tip for hot summer days, it is worth turning into the public park of Villa Krämerstein at the highest point of the ascent after Seehotel Kastanienbaum and taking a deserved refreshment in the cool water of the lake. Refreshed, we enjoy the constant ups and downs along the rest of the route. The imposing villas form an impressive contrast to the agricultural areas and farms along the road. The denser development clearly shows that we are getting closer to the city of Luzern again. Passing the Schönbühl shopping center, we reach the last small ascent on the hilltop where the Richard Wagner Museum is located. On the following descent, caution is required to take the right turn. We set out to ride again as close to the lake as possible. At the "Ufschötti," there is an excellent opportunity for a final cooling off in Lake Lucerne.
We conclude our panorama route around the Horw peninsula with a ride around the shipyards and the KKL to Luzern station. The Seebistro LUZ at Landungsbrücke 1 is just the place to review the route again over a cool drink.
