Biglenalp: Green Idyll at the Foot of the Jungfrau

Description
The ascent from Wengen to Wengernalp via Sengg, Steinewald, In Gassen and Allmend is almost entirely on a gravel road. The Jungfrau and its pre-summit, the Silberhorn, can be seen between the trees.
From the Wengernalp railway station you pass alpine huts to the Wixi area and below the Wyssi Flue to Biglenalp. The alp lies directly at the foot of the Jungfrau - the view of its mighty rock faces and of the neighbouring peaks of the Mönch and Eiger is magnificent. The idyllic alpine area is an impressive contrast to the forbidding rocky desert: as a dry location, the pastureland harbours an above-average variety of species. Rare orchid species thrive here. In summer, countless butterflies frolic in the sea of blossoms. The young Trümmelbach stream runs through the middle of the alpine pastures. The scenic qualities of Biglenalp were recognised in 2017 with the cultural landscape award of the Oberland-Ost region.
Via Mettlenalp to Stalden, from where you descend to the Schiltwald forest and return to Wengen station.
