Description

The ascent from Wengen to the Wengernalp via Sengg, Steinewald, In Gassen, and Allmend runs almost entirely on a gravel path. Between the trees, the Jungfrau and its forepeak, the Silberhorn, come into view.

From the Wengernalp station you pass alpine huts into the Wixi area and below the Wyssi Flue onto the Biglenalp. The alp lies directly at the foot of the Jungfrau – the view of its mighty rock faces and neighboring peaks Mönch and Eiger is magnificent. In striking contrast to the forbidding rocky desert stands the idyllic alpine area: as a dry location, the pastureland harbors an above-average species diversity. Rare orchid species thrive here. In summer, countless butterflies flit in the sea of flowers. The young Trümmelbach flows right through the alpine meadows. The landscape qualities of the Biglenalp were honored in 2017 with the Cultural Landscape Award of the Oberland-Ost region.

Via the Mettlenalp it goes to Stalden, from there you descend to the Schiltwald and return to Wengen station.
