Description
Long before humans, the beaver inhabited the Thur valley. Extinct in the 19th century, it now lives again in the Thur meadows thanks to reintroductions in the 1970s. Around 450 beavers currently live in Switzerland, nearly 100 of them native to Thurgau. About a quarter of them can probably be found in the area around the Pfyn Beaver Trail. Whether you will immediately spot a beaver while walking the trail is doubtful, as the animals are mainly nocturnal and rarely seen before dusk.
However, their traces are unmistakable and often appear in unexpected places. The Beaver Trail takes you through various habitats and several beaver territories in the Pfyn area. Along the way, ten panels provide visitors with extensive information about the lifestyle of the largest native rodent. With its interactive elements such as a quiz for children, the Beaver Trail is an experience for young and old alike.
