Description

Starting point is the Nepomuk bridge over the Birs, which connects Dornach in the Solothurn region with Reinach in Basel-Landschaft. The starting point is easily reachable within a few minutes from Arlesheim-Dornach station.

After a short section, you turn onto the wide, well-maintained marl path, which runs through the Reinacher Heide nature reserve – a nature reserve of national importance. Over 500 plant species are native here, including rare native orchids. The wide path allows you to stop, marvel, and take a deep breath at any time. The view opens repeatedly to the Birs, which flows somewhat naturally and lightly wild towards the Rhine in places.

Those who prefer to stay on asphalt will find an equivalent alternative on the opposite side of the Birs on the bike path. This path is also permitted for dogs. However, dogs are not allowed in the nature reserve along the Birs (except guide dogs).

Due to construction work, the route currently leads via a detour in the Münchenstein Hofmatt area. This includes two short, steeper ascents. A prior route check, for example via SchweizMobil, is recommended. The detour is basically barrier-free, but much easier to manage with electric drive.

The tour ends in the Park im Grünen in Münchenstein and can ideally be combined with a walk through the park or another barrier-free tour through the Merian Gardens.
