Description

From Münsingen station through the underpass towards Belpberg and through a new residential area to the Üsseri Giessen. Along the sports field, you reach the crossing over the motorway and shortly thereafter the forest-surrounded Parkbad Münsingen. Cross to the other Aare bank on the Schützenfarbrügg. There was once a shooting range here. The ferry that existed then (the Schützenfar) gave the bridge its name. Now begins the enjoyable hike above the river course on the steep edge of the Belpberg. Passing the Neumatt homestead, you go to the Ochsenmatt estate. On the way, magnificent views of the Aare landscape and the mountains. The descent past the Breitenried farm is easy, while the following riverside stretch is wonderfully wild. Floodplain forest, rapids, sandy bays, reed beds: everything is represented here. On a soft footpath, you reach the Thalgut. For centuries, this was the only inn on the Aare between Thun and Bern. A spa for rheumatism and gout was also very popular here. 100 m behind the inn, the beautiful riverside path begins again, stretching along the Aare almost to Jaberg. Cross to the other Aare bank via the Jaberg bridge. The following stretch to the mouth of the Rotache runs through unspoiled, noise-free riverside landscape, where you can find common sandpipers, little ringed plovers, and dipper birds. The other bank appears as a steep rock step, where even kingfishers and goosanders find shelter. The Rotache footbridge is about 250 m inland, and to pass under the railway line, you must detour slightly inland again. Along the railway embankment to the nearby railway bridge at Uttigen and cross the Aare again on the pedestrian bridge. It is then only a few steps to Uttigen station.
