Description

The Gastlosen refers to the chain of limestone peaks south of the village of Jaun and are also called the Saanenländer Dolomiten. The hike mainly takes place on the territory of the Freiburg municipality of Jaun, the other part in the Bernese municipality of Saanen in the hamlet (subdivision) Abländschen. From the bus stop Jaun, Kappelboden it is a short walk to the chairlift of the Gastlosenexpress. This was inaugurated in November 2011. The hike is marked from the mountain station in addition to the usual signage with smaller signposts as the Gastlosen route. The Musersbergli mountain hut invites as the first restaurant for refreshment. The direction is chosen counterclockwise, first heading to the Soldatenhaus, the second inn. This is reached on a pleasant path through pastures, briefly downhill, then marked as a mountain hiking trail ascending through forest and pastures. At the Soldatenhaus, keep left, along the slope and finally over the ridge via an exposed section, the highest point of the hike is reached at Wolfs Ort. Now downhill through pastures, then left along the slope, later along a stream and finally uphill on a forest road, you reach the Buvette Grat, the third place to stop for refreshments. Mostly on paths, a short stretch on a road downhill through forest and pastures leads back to Musersbergli, the aforementioned mountain hut as the last opportunity to be served. The chairlift takes hikers back to the valley.
