Description

With every meter of altitude, every hairpin bend, and every viaduct, it gets more wintry. You have to overcome over 350 curves from Chur up to Arosa. The toboggan run, however, runs quite straight downhill immediately after the start. It starts at Untersee, which is located at just under 1700 meters. The route follows the tracks of the red Arosa railway to the Isel reservoir, about 100 meters lower. Shortly after that, the railway line is crossed. From here, the path follows gentle curves along the Plessur river. The route mostly runs through dense fir forests.

In the second half, in the steep terrain – to the right of the foaming Plessur – lies the huge erosion funnel Blau Rüfi. While the Rhaetian Railway now makes two wide bends, the toboggan run leads directly into the “in da Brünscht” area and to the destination in Litzirüti. Settled by the Walser people, the village at 1450 meters originally consisted only of isolated farms. Today, it lives almost exclusively from summer and especially winter tourism. The RhB runs back to Arosa hourly.

Overall, this toboggan run is a bit less fast-paced and is perfectly suited for enjoyment – also because of the beautiful views: repeatedly, between the tightly standing firs, the view opens up to the peaks of the region, including the Schiesshorn and the Tijerfluh. And if the trees block the view, you might be lucky enough to spot one or another forest inhabitant.
