Description
The Appenzeller Vorderland route begins with a steady but pleasant climb towards Wald. Shortly before Wald, you enter a breathtaking landscape full of lush meadows, green forests, and traditional Appenzeller farms. Soon you will reach the historically significant Trogen. There, discover the Landsgemeindeplatz with the baroque Grubenmann church and the Zellweger palaces or visit the Pestalozzi children's village. Afterwards, you will experience a longer descent via Speicher to Zweibrücken. During the following ascent, you can refresh yourself in Rehetobel and admire the expanse of the Appenzellerland. From Rehetobel, it is only a short distance to Kaienspitz, the highest point of the circular route. Pause for a moment at Kaienspitz and enjoy the panorama, which offers a view over Lake Constance, the Säntis massif, and the city of St. Gallen. The route is rounded off with another descent back to Heiden.
