Description
To reach the Falknis, first descend from the Rappenstein saddle (see Rappenstein route, page 25) towards Mazorahöhe. Once Mazorahöhe, at around 2,000 meters above sea level, is reached, the challenging and very steep mountain path ascends over the Guschasattel and the Falknishorn to the summit of the Falknis. From the summit of the Falknis, hikers are offered a magnificent panoramic view. Beyond the Rhine valley, the peaks of the Glarus Alps as well as the Churfirsten and the Säntis in the Alpstein can be seen. To the north, the view even extends beyond Lake Constance. The return route goes back over the Rappenstein saddle, from where a narrow path leads to Alp Gapfahl. The path then turns into a broad forest road that winds downward. At the first junction, the path turns left into a hiking trail and follows the Liechtenstein Panorama Trail (route sign 66) to the Berggasthaus Sücka and from there down to the starting point in Steg.
