Description
From the Büren a. A. station downstream along the Aare to the main road and past the castle, town hall, and the colorful arcade houses to the wooden covered Aare bridge. Just before the bridge, turn right towards the Ländte. The walk begins along a shady riverside promenade on the Aare bank. The path now always follows directly along the water the tree and shrub areas that add a special accent to the wide fields. Along the way, dragonflies, frogs, butterflies, water birds, and even occasionally the rare kingfisher can be observed. At Austücki, the former course of the Aare formed a wide loop (Rütisack), which is still significant for the canton border today. Over the Rütibach footbridge, continue to the Aarbrügg, whose elegant arch replaced the former iron construction by Gustave Eiffel. Even more imposing is the motorway bridge, at whose bridgehead biotopes have been created. Soon Altreu with the stork colony is reached. The Altreu ferry takes you to the other side of the Aare, from where you soon reach the Witi nature reserve. At the end, you go under the motorway and the (disused) railway line to the worth seeing, excellently restored old buildings of Nennigkofen.
