Description
The hike from Innertkirchen to Engstlenalp leads through the scenic Gental. Picturesque rock faces and impressive waterfalls shape the wide valley floor.
From the Grimseltor in Innertkirchen, the old Susten road leads over Eggi to Wyler and from there via Sunnsyten into the Gental. At Färrichstetten, a beautiful view opens towards the Engstlenalp area. Also worth a look back: behind the Aare valley and Urbachtal rise the Engelhörner and Wetterhorn group. Passing the Gental huts, one reaches the Berghaus Schwarzental and further uphill past the Jungibäch. Caterpillars, grasshoppers, and magnificent butterflies are seen everywhere. The constant crawling and buzzing indicate the rich biodiversity of the nature here. Magnificent old maple trees in the pasture give the hilly terrain the character of a park landscape. The Engstlen Alpine cooperative ensures that weeds do not become excessive. The herders were honored in 2014 with the cultural landscape prize of the Oberland-Ost region for their commitment. Finally, the moderately steep ascent leads to the Engstlenalp.
