Description
The hike starts at Frauenfeld station, passing the castle heading south. You cross the Murg and follow the river on the west bank up to the "Königswuhr." Through the Oberholz, it goes up to Hungersbühl and Gerlikon.
To the southeast, the view opens up to Hinterthurgau and Toggenburg. At the entrance to the village of Gerlikon, a charming half-timbered house draws attention. Alfred Huggenberger lived here from 1908 until his death in 1960. Passing by the 13th-century Georg Chapel, you reach Bewangen, where Huggenberger worked as a young farmer. Then the route descends through Samelsgrüt to Gachnang.
In Islikon, the destination of the hike, there is the option to visit the Greuterhof, built in 1777, one of the first factories in Switzerland. The gently renovated facility with a very special charm is today a seminar and cultural center. A special attraction is the Telephonica telephone museum. Return to Frauenfeld is by the Thurbo regional train.
