Description

The Lugibach route, about 8.5 km long, is the longest of the four routes between the Sulperg and Rüsler ridges in the lower Limmat Valley. It covers the area between the right bank of the Limmat and the Sulperg between Würenlos and Wettingen. Accordingly, there is much to discover on this route. The theme of landscape change in the Central Plateau can be experienced exemplarily on this route. Intensively and extensively used agricultural areas, open gravel pits, and interspersed settlement areas alternate with industrial areas and numerous transport routes. Accordingly, various needs collide. These include the renaturation of culverted creeks as well as the construction of a foot and cycle bridge over the Limmat. Other special features to discover on the Lugibach route include relics of the former cultural landscape, specifically remnants of historic water ditches, as well as the valley views into the Limmat and Furttal valleys.

The "Sulperg–Rüsler corridor" project aims to preserve and promote these open spaces. Agricultural use is a key component, but the importance for recreation and leisure is continuously increasing. An experience trail with marked stations and information boards running through the corridor will be completed by 2022. The project is part of Regionale 2025.
