Description
The Köniz station is the starting point of the postal bus line to the Längenberg and is located near the stops of the city bus lines 10 and 17. The name Köniz means "Kunings-Ort" (King’s place). Kuning was the name for the highest druid, corresponding in spiritual dignity to that of a bishop. First, you walk around the walled building complex with the widely visible church up to the castle. Along the cemetery, you then head to the riding school at the exit of the Gurten valley. Through a forest notch, you reach the civil defense facility near the Platten farm via a quiet little valley. Initially, a wide curve road leads through a hollow, leaves it toward the hillside, and finally continues as a narrow path steeply up the ridge to Ulmizberg. The viewing platform of the telecommunications facility offers a wide view over the Mittelland to the Jura. At the forest edge, the unobstructed view of the foothills and the high mountains surprises. For the descent to the stately farms of Oberulmiz, choose the westward declining forest path (toward Kühlewil–Kehrsatz 55 min). On the opposite slope, you immediately go up 100 m again to the saddle at Moosgraben (towards Zingghöch–Oberscherli 40 min). Via Egg, you reach the wooded ridge of Lisiberg by bypassing the deeply incised Dürsgraben on a wide detour (from the edge of the Chüliwil forest to Englisberg 35 min). The renewed ascent is rewarded with a magnificent view of the foothills from Hohgant to the Schwarzenburgerland. The path gently descends now to the forest corner at Allmid (toward Zimmerwald 20 min) and crosses the high plateau of the Längenberg to Niedermuhlern.
